Looking for your countryside sanctuary within walking distance of a historic town? This home is for you.

This building could become your own B&B business, or perhaps you're a therapist wanting to offer retreat art and craft workshops or spa treatments. Being so accessible to the town, this would be an idyllic therapy setting.

- Pretty main gardens including a purpose-built front porch with ornate arches, and an enclosed garden with a brick-built BBQ
- Man cave/workshop (9.81 x 4.16m) with a doorway to the garage, accessed via an internal courtyard — an idyllic space for a hot tub (5.7 x 4.44m)
- Separate detached house for reform — the front was previously a residence with an original fireplace; the rear was originally used for animals. A genuine project for anyone wanting to add their own design
- Bolsa water storage at the rear of the building
- Mains electric and water, internet available to connect, solar water heater
- Just 1.4km to Vélez Rubio — ideal for a bike ride or a short walk
- EPC rating: C (current)
Leaving Vélez Rubio, a tarmacked road brings you to the property in just 1.4km — a 4-minute drive. The final approach is a short, well-maintained track through the almond and olive groves, spectacular when in blossom and filling the air with sweet aroma. Two gates lead into the main garden, with a driveway offering plenty of parking that sweeps around the property.
The 10 x 5m swimming pool, with depths ranging from 1.4m to 1.72m, sits to the right-hand side of the plot. Built with full licences, it's surrounded by terraces with ample space for entertaining and enclosed with fencing.
Both houses sit within a walled border area of 17.4 x 9m, laid with tiles and stone, and finished with a brick-built BBQ. The main house is entered through ornate arches into a front porch — a genuinely cool space to sit in the summer months, with room for a table and chairs (3 x 9m).
Through the central wooden door, you step into the open-plan kitchen/diner, with space enough to include a lounge area too. The fitted kitchen sits to the right with its breakfast bar, while the left-hand side houses the log burner that powers central heating throughout the home, alongside a ceiling fan and an air con unit offering both hot and cold control.
The kitchen itself has a butler's sink, a SMEG range induction cooker, an extractor fan, and fitted wall and floor cupboards. Two south-facing UPVC windows bring in light, fitted with flyscreens, shutters, and rejas — a feature repeated throughout the property. High ceilings add to the spacious feel throughout.
The staircase to the first floor sits centrally. To the left is a separate lounge (3.4 x 3.9m) with UPVC windows framing mountain views, a further log burner, ceiling fan, wall-mounted radiator, and a concealed understairs cupboard with shelving. To the right is the ground-floor bedroom, currently used as an office, with an en-suite bathroom (1.82 x 3.97m) — half-tiled walls and a corner walk-in shower. Given its position facing the internal courtyard, it may be possible to add a doorway for direct garden access. The current owners also use this space as a utility room, with the washing machine plumbed in here.
Upstairs, three further double bedrooms average a generous 4 x 4m, all south-facing with UPVC glass-panelled doors opening onto the outside terrace. Every bedroom has a ceiling fan, and Bedroom 4 has its own air con unit. All rooms are fitted with wall radiators supplied by the ground-floor log burner, and the terrace doors include flyscreen panels. The views from up here are genuinely breathtaking — rolling hills, mountains, and the town of Vélez Rubio below, with the main church visible and beautifully lit at night.
The bedrooms and family bathroom lead off a hallway measuring 5.2 x 1.1m. The family bathroom is generously sized, with a full bath, overhead shower, fitted wall units, mirror, lighting, and a basin — large enough that it could be divided to add an en-suite to Bedroom 3 while still leaving a comfortable family bathroom behind. Ceilings on this floor remain high throughout, adding further to the sense of space.
To the right of the main house is a large man cave/workshop with electric already installed, connecting via a doorway to the garage — ideal for keeping tools and equipment contained. The workshop measures 4.16 x 9.81m, and the garage 6 x 4.6m, accessed via the internal courtyard.
The detached second house offers real potential. The front section has four rooms with concrete/tiled flooring, previously used as a residence, effectively laid out as a ground-floor apartment. The rear was originally used to house farm animals. This building would make a genuinely stunning Airbnb opportunity, a self-contained home for multi-generational family living, or — for a therapist — a separate treatment or workshop space.

The Local Area
Los Vélez sits in the province of Almería, close to the Murcia border, under an hour's drive from the popular coastal towns of Mojácar and Águilas. We're also fortunate to be fairly close to the picturesque Lake Negratín, with its natural spas in Zújar.
Vélez Rubio
Bring your Spanish dreams to life across the towns of Vélez Rubio, Vélez Blanco, and Chirivel — all offering genuinely impressive scenery. Vélez Blanco has its own castle, sitting proudly in the mountains overlooking the valleys below.
Have you come across the Indalo man on your travels here? It's a symbol of good luck and protection, with original cave drawings still visible near Vélez Blanco and Vélez Rubio. The Indalo is now the official symbol of Almería — with one important rule: you can't buy one for yourself, it has to be gifted. The symbol represents a human figure holding a rainbow overhead, originally painted on properties to ward off evil.
Vélez Rubio ranks among the top 10 places to visit in Southern Spain for local celebrations and fiestas. We'd recommend a meal at one of the restaurants in the Plaza de la Encarnación, or a morning coffee with a view at the Hotel Velad Al Abyadh in Vélez Blanco. The town holds a great Saturday market with locally grown fruit and veg, plus a good clothing selection, and there are over 50 restaurants and bars to enjoy. The wider area is excellent for outdoor activities year-round — hiking, biking, and trekking.
Lake Negratín isn't far, offering water sports and natural spas for real relaxation, and Zújar has its own natural spas too.
The small village of Fuente Grande sits within beautiful surroundings, home to a mix of generations including young families, centred around its pretty church. Locals gather each August to celebrate the village fiestas, and there's even a playground near the church, with school bus transfers running for local children.
